Emergency Care

Living in a rural community can mean having limited access to medical care—including emergency services that may provide lifesaving care for patients in critical condition. Fortunately, Raulerson Hospital is there to provide excellent medical care with dedicated emergency facilities near Okeechobee. Our ER has been designed to serve patients with major and minor emergencies in a timely manner, and we offer specialized pediatric emergency care to ensure that patients of all ages have immediate access to the care they need when they need it most.

What to Expect in the ER

When you come to the ER, you will be immediately seen by a triage nurse to determine the urgency of your condition and the appropriate treatment. This assessment allows our emergency physicians to see patients in a timely, efficient manner with dedicated attention for patients facing more serious illnesses or injuries. Below you can get a closer look at what you might expect when you visit our emergency department.

  • Treatment process – If the triage nurse assesses your condition to be emergent, you will likely be taken to a treatment room right away. There you will provide information for your medical record that will guide the ER staff in your treatment. Laboratory exams may be needed for a definitive diagnosis, and these tests will be followed by a visit with an emergency physician. From here, patients may be discharged with instructions for follow-up care or admitted to the hospital depending on the nature of their condition.
  • Low wait times – As an HCA hospital, we have made every effort to enhance care while reducing wait times. This means that even patients with less urgent conditions who have to wait for treatment rooms will not spend all day in the ER waiting for their care. Our wait times are consistently well below the national averages, and you can always view these times on our website or by texting ER to 23000.
  • Onsite procedures – Our diagnostic procedures use state-of-the-art technology onsite to promote the best possible outcomes for our patients. With imaging procedures accredited by the American College of Radiology and a laboratory with accreditation from the College of American Pathologists, you can always expect accurate, prompt care from your diagnosis through your discharge from the ER.

Hospital Admission Following Emergency Care

Raulerson Hospital strives to offer a full continuum of care for the surrounding community, but we do have a seamless transfer process in place for patients who need more specialized care. When services are not available in our facilities, patients may be transferred to one of our sister facilities in the Treasure Coast for continued care.
